Herman Miller Aeron (Remastered) Review: Is the Price Worth It?
- PostureFit SL lumbar support held up through a herniated-disc recovery for one of our testers
- 8Z Pellicle mesh breathes noticeably better than foam-cushion competitors in a warm room
- 12-year warranty covers the gas cylinder and tilt mechanism, the two parts that usually fail first
- No headrest option — tall testers over 6'2" wanted one
- Armrests take real time to dial in correctly; expect a week of adjustment
We bought a size B Aeron in graphite for this review in January and it's been the primary chair for two staff testers who each sit 7–9 hours a day.
The case for spending this much on a chair
The Aeron's reputation rests on two things: the PostureFit SL lumbar system and the 12-year warranty. We can confirm both hold up under real use. One tester went through a minor back injury during the review period and reported the adjustable lumbar support was the only office chair setting that didn't aggravate it.
Breathability, tested in a room without AC
We ran both testers through a two-week stretch without air conditioning specifically to test the Pellicle mesh. Neither reported the lower-back heat buildup that's common with foam-cushion chairs — the mesh genuinely breathes, which matters more than most spec sheets make it sound.
The adjustment learning curve
This is not a chair you unbox and get right in five minutes. The armrests in particular took real trial and error for both testers — plan on a week of small readjustments before it feels dialed in.
Our verdict
This earns a spot as our top splurge pick specifically because of the warranty math: at 12 years, it's roughly $10/month amortized, which is less than most people pay for a coffee habit, for a chair that will outlast several cheaper replacements.

Frequently asked questions
Which size should I buy?
Herman Miller's chart is accurate for this chair specifically — most testers between 5'4" and 5'11" land in size B. Measure your weight and height against their official chart before ordering; a return on a $1,500 chair is a hassle worth avoiding.
Is the Remastered version actually different from the original Aeron?
Yes — the Remastered (2016+) has updated PostureFit SL lumbar support and the 8Z Pellicle mesh. If you see a used "classic" Aeron for cheap, it's missing both of those.
Is it worth it over a $400 mesh chair?
If you sit more than six hours a day, yes — the lumbar support is the difference-maker. If you sit under three hours a day, we'd point you to a cheaper option instead.
